The 10-25 ray flowers each 1.0-1.6" long. The disc yellow, 0.6-1.0" wide, per Wildflowers of Tennessee, the Ohio Valley, and the Southern Appalachians (Horn, Cathcart, Hemmerly, & Duhl, 2005).

Perennial 2-10' tall. The inflorescence tends to be long, with several heads, per Wildflowers of Tennessee (Carman, 2005).
