Unifoliolate (technically compound but having only 1 leaflet and appearing simple), rarely with a few upper leaves trifoliolate
Mostly alternate, closely spaced, often appearing to be a basal rosette
Leaves have long petioles.
Stipules are persistent.
Stipels persistent.
