Habitat: Moist to dry outcrops of metamorphic, sedimentary, or igneous rocks, such as gneiss, schist, amphibolite, quartzite, rhyolite, sandstone, mostly at moderate to high elevations (up to over 2000 m), but in the Piedmont to as low as 150 m, per Weakley's Flora

Native to the Carolinas & Georgia

Common in Mountains, uncommon in NC Piedmont (rare elsewhere in GA-NC-SC)
